Some Causes of Obesity

What is obesity?

From Wikipedia: Obesity is a medical condition in which excess body fat has accumulated to the extent that it may have an adverse effect on health, leading to reduced life expectancy and/or increased health problems.

From WHO: Overweight and obesity are defined as abnormal or excessive fat accumulation that presents a risk to health.

Someone who has a weight 20% higher than the middle value range of normal weight is considered obese.

Obesity is classified into 3 groups:
  • severe obesity: 20-40% overweight
  • morbid obesity: 41-100% overweight
  • super obesity: excess body weight> 100% (by weight obesity was found among the 5% of people who are obese).

Do you know what that can cause obesity?

Scientifically, obesity is caused by consuming more calories than are required by the body.
  • Genetics: Genetic factors and family history is one of the causes of obesity. Family members not only share genes but also diet and lifestyle habits, which can promote obesity.
  • Environmental: Genes an important factor in many cases of obesity, but one's environment also plays a significant role. This environment includes behavioral / lifestyle patterns (eg what to eat and how many times a person eats and how their activities). A person certainly can not change the genetic pattern, but he can change their diet and activity.
  • Psychological/Stress: What's in a person's mind can affect eating habits. Many people reacted to his emotions by eating. One form of emotional distress is a negative self-perception. This disorder is a serious problem in many young women who suffer from obesity.
  • Other illnesses: Some illnesses may lead to obesity. including: hypothyroidism, Cushing's syndrome,  Several neurological disorders that can cause a lot of eating, etc.
  • Drugs: Such as steroids and some antidepressants may cause weight gain.
Physical activity: Lack of physical activity is one of the main causes of the increasing incidence of obesity, Someone who tends to consume foods rich in fat and physical activity are not balanced, will be obese.
Note :

Obesity increases the risk of several chronic illnesses such as:
  • Diabetes type 2 (arising in adolescence)
  • Hypertension
  • stroke
  • A heart attack (myocardial infarction)
  • heart failure
  • Cancer (certain types of cancer, such as prostate cancer and colon cancer)
  • Gall bladder stones and bladder stones
  • Gout and arthritis gout
  • osteoarthritis
  • Sleep apneu (failure to breathe normally during sleep, causing a decrease in oxygen levels in the blood)
  • Pickwickian syndrome (obesity accompanied by facial redness, underventilasi and sleepy).
If you really want to prevent weight gain, the best approach is to focus on the active lifestyle that includes a healthy diet and low calorie.
